So, put your e-learning content on a diet!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/welove.netexlearning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/FernandoDiaz-ContenidosADieta01.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-355 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/welove.netexlearning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/FernandoDiaz-ContenidosADieta01.png\" alt=\"FernandoDiaz-ContenidosADieta01\" width=\"571\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/welove.netexlearning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/FernandoDiaz-ContenidosADieta01.png 571w, https:\/\/welove.netexlearning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/FernandoDiaz-ContenidosADieta01-300x135.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 571px) 100vw, 571px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The weight is a characteristic of an e-learning content which directly affects the way in which content is going to be delivered to students, and it significantly influences user experience.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of content to be delivered through an LMS, if your content weighs too much, the time required for the user to view it and the response time to interactions will be longer (the web browser will have to manipulate heavy elements).<\/p>\n<p>The problem is even bigger if your content is going to be delivered through mobile devices by using m-learning systems. In this case, the weight is a fundamental element as it does not only affect content download times and performance, but it\u2019s also affected by the limited storage space of these devices.<\/p>\n<p>One of the trends we presented this year in our <a href=\"https:\/\/welove.netexlearning.com\/\">i-lovelearning<\/a> event in Madrid was \u201cContent Chunking\u201d. \u201cContent Chunking\u201d is the technique of dividing content in smaller pieces (byte-sized), easily digestible and transferable. It\u2019s the strategy our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netexlearning.com\/learningcoffee\">Netex learningCoffee<\/a> format follows and it provides the following benefits:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table style=\"height: 221px;\" width=\"590\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"376\">\n<ul>\n<li>Higher information withholding<\/li>\n<li>Better understanding by students<\/li>\n<li>Better access and distribution<\/li>\n<li>Make searches easier<\/li>\n<li>Focus on students\u2019 attention<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, one of the main consequences of \u201cContent Chunking\u201d is the reduction in our content\u2019s weight, which motivates most of these benefits.<\/td>\n<td width=\"200\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/welove.netexlearning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/FernandoDiaz-ContenidosADieta02.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-354\" src=\"https:\/\/welove.netexlearning.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/FernandoDiaz-ContenidosADieta02.png\" alt=\"FernandoDiaz-ContenidosADieta02\" width=\"215\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Therefore, dividing our content is a good strategy to reduce its weight&#8230; but, what else can be done?<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netexlearning.com\/learningmaker\/\">Netex learningMaker<\/a> user, you probably know our recommendations document for the use of multimedia resources. To summarise this document, and searching a general application to any authoring tool in the market, we\u2019re going to list 5 tips to help you keep your content fit this summer:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Choose carefully your images\u2019 format<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Use JPEG for photographic images, GIF for images with blocks of plain colours (e.g.: icons, cliparts\u2026) and PNG for images with effects such as shines and shadows, or which require transparency. The user will not see your content better and its weight will increase unnecessarily.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Use MP3 format for your audios<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If your content includes audio, use MP3 format for working with just one file. PDF documents should be created with a resolution not higher than 72\u00a0PPI, which will allow a perfectly visualization on screen with an optimised weight.
